Membership gives you access to workshops and seminars which can count towards the required Professional Learning requirements.

Teachers and student teachers can become members of MEIST. Membership fees are $210.00 for the calendar year.

Members are entitled to participate in, and will be invited to, all of the Professional Learning seminars that take place throughout the year at no extra cost. Cost of session attendance is $30.00 per session for non members, and MEIST plan to run a minimum of eight seminars per year. Membership fees are tax deductible but we suggest discussing this firstly with your accountant.

Membership with MEIST offers many benefits:

  • Take advantage of local Professional Learning opportunities.
  • Being able to form networks with peers in the teaching field from around the state and via different school systems.
  • Take advantage of networking opportunities while learning about exciting new techniques and trends by communicating and collaborating with fellow members in your field of interest.
  • Receive exposure to alternative teaching practices.
  • Gaining access to additional resources from experienced Secondary School educators or from Tertiary institutions.
  • Having an opportunity to develop as an educator in accordance with the AITSL standards.
  • Being provided with an opportunity to meet the needs of the new Teacher Registration requirements.
  • Having the opportunity to be connected to other educators in your field to further develop one’s personal pedagogy through personal mentoring.
  • Access to workshops dealing with the development of teaching resources and ideas.
  • Attendees to seminars for Assistance with Employment receive a 10% discount to attend the workshops.

Schools that take up membership can send any two staff members to the Professional Learning workshops and the school can use any resources supplied for use in all classes at the school. An advantage for schools taking up the membership is that the same two members of the school don’t have to attend every session. Faculty members can choose which sessions to go depending on what is on offer at any given time. For example, if one of the workshops caters for Physics, then Physics staff can attend the workshop. If the next workshop is more suited to Middle School Biology then two Middle School staff can attend that workshop. The cost for School membership for a full year is $500.00. School membership also entitles the school to use any resource materials collected from workshops to be used throughout the school.

Note: This membership fee does not include participation in the Assistance with Employment Seminars. Individual teacher members only are entitled to a 10% discount for these seminars.
