In my first year of teaching I found the challenge ahead of me very daunting. I taught two classes in Stage 2 Psychology, one at Stage 1 together with two Middle School Science classes. However it was highly overwhelming and I noticed how much hard work and preparation goes into these classes so that the students can learn and benefit from.
I contacted MEIST who were able to direct me towards experienced teachers who could help me begin my career as a teacher. One of my mentors worked with me specifically with the Middle School Science aspect of my work. During my teaching this year my MEIST mentor was supportive and was able to teach me simple but successful strategies that I could implement in my Science classes. He has helped me in so many areas of teaching. These are outlined below.

My name is Thomas Rehn and throughout year twelve it became obvious that I had bitten off more than I could chew. Towards the end of term 2 I had a real problem keeping up with and understanding the physics course. I was given a contact number and found a tutor through MEIST who was an amazing teacher. He was able to pick me up from low D grades which were my standard level of achievement to date to a B grade in my next test after one tutorial . My tutor was instrumental in helping me to pass my first test for the year the day after. Throughout the weekly tutorials I began to lift my grades and became fluent with parts of the course and with that came a lot of confidence, which helped a lot.
